The International Training Course on Long-term Monitoring of Terrestrial Ecosystems§ (ITC-LMTE) was held at Institute of Botany(IB) from Aug.27 to Sept.14, 2012. Nineteen participants from 5 African countries (Nile Basin, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt) attended this training course.
The training course is a sub-project of ※Sino-UN cooperation action on African water-ecological conservation and technical cooperation on water resources of African typical countries and river basins§, which is co-hosted by Dr. Dongxiu Wu and Dr. Hongxu Ren. It aims to popularize relevant theory and technology so as to stimulate the construction of ecosystem long-term monitoring network for the Nile Basin.
The training course consitsts of four parts: indoor courses, specific lectures, field trips, and exchange of each countries*s national conditions. 14 experts give lectures on such topics as the construction and management of ecological stations, ecosystem monitoring contents and protocols, etc. The participants also have field trips to Beijing Forest Ecosystem Research Station and Inner Mongolia Grassland Ecosystem Research Station to gain first hand experience.
The training course is sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People*s Republic of China. It strengthened the cooperation between IB-CAS and African countries.
